Hi this is my first post on this forum. I have a 8000ltre pond with lots of plants a few very large goldfish.
The pond has one sloped edge comes out on to o rockery. The whole pond is fenced off as I have children and the rockery has sunshine over some part of it all day.
I have two dogs and do not get cats in the garden.
Would I be able to rehome any turtles in mypond all year round?
Also my pond is a liner pond so should I have to be concerned about turtle claws ripping my liner.
Thanks in advance

Hiya - we have 8 turtles in an outside pond and we keep them outside all year. we have two dogs and they don't bother them. Personally I think this is a far nicer way to keep them as its a more natural environment for them. We have no fish in there at the moment but will be getting some soon and have had them in the past. Be warned - turtles may nip or even kill your fish so if you are precious about them bear that in mind. We have never had a problem but its something to consider. The pond will need to well oxygenated so you'll need a pump and a filter - they wont survive without these - especially in the winter. They may also eat your pond plants - they love water lilies!! Their claws shouldn't be a problem on your liner but you will need them to have a deep part of the pond for when its cold and a gentle slope so that they can get out to bask when its warm. They are also good climbers so think about your fence - although my pond is unfenced and they all stay around the pond apart from one that likes to wander around the garden. email me if you need any help and I'll send you some photos - its great to see them outside enjoying the sunshine.
