hi to everyone... i`m new in here and with turtles... i buy last week 4 yellow belly turtles and everthing is just fine, i take some british king food 4 them and they eat only shrimps and krill, but pellets and gammarus no way, i have a question: Is this enough for their diet or i need to complete with something else? thanks and by the way, i think you guys do a great work.

hi bob, welcome to the friendly forum for all keepers and turtles alike... to answer your question most turtles and terrapins will only eat the good stuff, like kids only wanting sweets but no dinner... its a case of tuff love here. hunger is a key advantage here, only feed your turtles as much as they will eat in 20 Min's plus a little more and remove all uneaten foods after an hour as this will only foul your water quality if left.. to get turtles to eat things that they need like nuggets that have vitamins and calcium in only feed them the nuggets for one days food... nothing else... next day offer greens nothing else... a good varied diet is essential for these animals, keep to a varied routine in the diet and they will come round, keep one day for the treats though... we all like sweets after all..... regards wayne...

Welcome to the forum Wayne is right.... tough love is needed. I've had some very fussy eaters among my rescued turtles - some of them went on hunger strike for 10 days when I first got them! I find that shrimps are like sweets for turtles and they all love them but you have to withold the shrimps until they eat he pellets. I always feed them the shrimps last as a sort of dessert to make sure they eat pellets first.
