Does anyone else find that their turtles eat their basking docks? I try to discourage it as best I can because I dont imagine that foam stuff is very good for them but I cant watch them 24 hours a day. The turtle dock is about half its original size!!
I have occassionally distracted them by feeding them but that will only teach them that they will be fed if they do it.
Any similar experiences or thoughts on how to get around this?

hi, this is more common then people would like to admit, and your right to not keep feeding them when they do this, why they choose to bite these docks is somewhat of a mystery yet its thought they need to bite on something to keep their mouths and jaws in good condition and we see this here quite a lot here at turtle rescue, we got round this by adding a natural log to the tank, its free / natural / looks good but you will need to soak it for a couple of weeks before using as it will turn the water a brown color if not and when soaked it will sit half way in the water, but if you didn't want to use this they do actually make a turtle log on e-bay item number: 280596084950 just go to ebay and type or paste this number in and it will show you the log, its resin so the turtle wont be able to take chunks out of it... hope this helps regards Wayne..
