Hi all,
Just to let you all know i had a bit of a problem a month ago, my 4FT aquarium leaked (the external filter did) so a lot of the water came through the ceiling as i kept the tank in my bedroom. Obviously my mum and dad wasn't too pleased but they got over it. Wayne luckily is caring for my turtles as we speak as i sold the tank to get some money for my pond build. He is always there to help.
Pond Planning...
The pond was designed by me, i got the idea of it by having a look at other turtle raised ponds. Most of the projects i saw used railway sleepers so i decided to use deck boards so it would match my decking. The pond is preformed and will be compacted by sand. At one end i have an area where my home made filter system will go along with a UV clarifier (which i have got to buy). At the other end will be a beech area with play sand so the turtles can climb out and soak up the UV rays!
Pond Construction...
The frame measures 11ft lenght x 5.5ft width x 2ft deep. It is supported in each corner by 4 inch x4 inch posts, and in the middle by 4 inch x 2inch wood joists. And it is all held together with deck screws and a copule of coach screws.

That pond looks awesome Dan -are you actually going to build it yourself or get a builder? One imp point =how are you going to stop the turtles escaping? Believe me they will climb out of anything as I have learnt to my cost (young maps escaped 3 times). Also you need to protect turtles from birds if thye are smallish. Crows, large gulls and herons can easily carry them off. Foxes might eat them too

I built it by myself Gerry, although i did have some help by some landscapers to construct the frame. Don't worry i will fence them in. Dan Picture of how i want it to be. Attachments:

WOW Looks great I had my turtle in my koi pond similar size but have now taken them out as they were struggling to get any food before the koi got it. I am thinking of an indoor setup as I have read that in winter they need a mud substrate to dig into if anyone has heard this let me no.
