whats it about.... what is turtle rescue about, we were set up 21 yrs ago to help all turtles and terrapins that need our help from rescuing to health care and re-homing, we are non profit centers as anyone would tell you if you have been here at both our centers with no frills and home based yet we are the number one centers in the u.k for offering care and a brighter future for 403 turtles & terrapins last year and over 300 this year so far with some very serious cases to people who simply want a better life for their loved ones when life changes... we try to keep as many as we can and even try to re-home any turtle that that has had a bad start and only ask for a voluntary donation towards costs at both centers only, anyone that has been here will know after 21 yrs helping thousands of these animals and spending all the hours god will give us for these animals only spent on rescuing turtles from bad conditions and living in a one bedroom bungalow with tanks and ponds everywhere i think we can say we are not in it for the money.... i will answer and welcome any phone call of help day or night but i "WILL NOT" accept the sort of call i got tonight from someone accusing us of being money grabbers.... yes i could have kept this quiet but this is not what we do here at turtle rescue we have shared everything with our members and always have... not the actions or a money grabber at these animals expense is it... still its not for us to say so we are asking for the thoughts of anyone who has seen or been here to add any comments for this person to choke on his words.... thank you, regards Wayne at turtle rescue.... a little upset...

Anyone who has been to the Rescue Centre knows that it is run on a low budget and largely paid for out of Wayne's own pocket, plus some income from sale of turtle food and donations from well wishers. That's why I set up the sponsored browser and Turtle Rescue affiliate Shopping Page to try and raise some much needed funds and enable Turtle Rescue to continue it's wonderful work helping 1000s of unwanted, abandoned and ill treated turtles. No turtle in need is ever turned away no matter how ill it is or how big and potentially dangerous, like large snappers. What further proof that it's NOT about money but helping turtles does anyone need than the fact that Turtle Rescue has been featured TWICE by BBC on TV and radio in the last two weeks.

i have never been to the turtle centre but i have been in touch with wayne plenty of times with questions when i have had problems and he has allways tried to help in any way he can and never asked for anything in return..and that person who says you are money grabbers wants to know the facts before making accusations..wayne and his lives in a single bedroom bungalow works all day to help these animals and even finds time to answer any questions that people have...dont listen to these people wayne they got nothing better to do than try to knock decent people who try to make a difference..keep on keeping on mate..

I was so sorry and deeply saddened to hear of your distressing phonecall.. I have been involved in many animal rescue, rehoming and other charity fundraising events over the years.. involving very long days and weeks of very hard work ontop of work commitments.. often incurring personal costs such as vet bills and fuel costs to myself. Unfortunately there are many people in society who havent the brain cells to comprehend why I do this and find it incomprehensible that I do not earn any monetary reward. Well I say to these people.. do not judge every body by your own standards and values.!! Although I havent actually been to the centre because I live at the other end of the country .. I have spoke to Wayne at very unsociable hours and saw the BBC article and as far as I'm concerned you couldnt put a price on the work Wayne does.. as well as the work he does looking after all the animals, having your home taking over and being on call 24 / 7 must put a huge strain on his family life, something I'm sure many people like the caller do not take into account. To some people its not about money.. of course fund raising is essential to be able to continue to run the centre but to some people its second nature like breathing out and breathing in that the best reward ever is to give, even if you never recieve,to make a difference, to be needed.... Wayne.. please dont be disheartened by this caller, they havent a clue.. ignorance must be bliss! For every idiot like them, there are many, many more who know the truth...I see membership is growing fast.. Keep up the fantastic work.. God bless, you and your family for everything you do! xx

A money grabber? Hmmm......hours of unpaid work, making up food that pays for refugee turtles, turning your house into a turtle shelter, giving free advice as well as personal support in times of trouble and anxiety without any payment or personal profit......yes. A money grabber. most definately Wayne. Maybe you should up the stakes and go into an even more profitable proffession.....a monk for example? I would love to know the details of this conversation you had! I think anyone here knows why you do it. I certainly do and you have my lifelong respect my friend. Sincerely.
