Hi there,
Was hoping someone might have an idea as to what is going on with Myrtle's filter. I am using the Fluval 405 External Cannister Filter, and only purchased it in March this year, and have been really pleased with it up until now. On the 1st of each month I take the filter apart to clean it thoroughly and replace any media that needs replacing, and that is the recommendation so I don't think the problem lies with myself not maintaining it properly, but the output flow back into the tank now is very slow and hardly disturbs the water at all, whereas before it was a terrific flow back into the tent and created lots of water movement and entertainment for Myrtle.

Hi
Did you throughly clean the tubes that go in and out of the filter to the aquarium, usually these get clogged up and causes the water flow rate to decrease. Also check to see if your intake strainer is not blocked etc. There is a ball inside the intake strainer acting as a one way valve, it stops the water coming back down. On my filter this usually gets blocked so just give it a good rinse.
The flow rate could also decrease if there is too much filter media in the baskets, So try not to fill them all the way to the top.

Thanks Dan, it was the tubes! Must admit just assumed the water flowing through them would have kept them clean but haven't ever thought to clean them and had this filter for 8 months, so will put these on my monthly filter clean now.

Thanks Wayne, will get that. Myrtle is tip top condition looking absolutely great and loves the time out walking that you suggested. Will try and work out how to post pics as have got some from when I first took her on and she didn't look that good and shell was very bad, as had not had correct lighting or diet, but thanks to all your advice and my time( and money!) have completely turned her around and even vet has said he can't believe the same turtle, and pics of now so that people can see how they can be improved on.
