Welcome to the Forum. As you are thinking of getting a turtle. perhaps you could adopt one from Turtle Rescue. All 3 Rescue Centres have turtles in need of good homes -just contact your nearest one. If you live near London, I also have an adult male RES/YB cross and two young 2.5in sliders available for adoption.

Hello, Im new to the forum and got your details from an internet search.
I joined the forum to re-home my terrapins as htey have become too much for me to manage and I want to find them a good new how where they will have a good life.
Im based in Devon and Im a Disabled man, I have had my Terrapins for 8 months and they are great. unfortunatly they have got too big for me, especially the female. I have tried all the usual places to advertise for a new home for them and nobody has got back to me.
Can anyone here suggest any contacts in the Devon area or special re-homing service in this area.
Thank you
Chris F

Hi Chris Sorry to hear you are having problems taking care of your turtles. If it is just a matter of finding them a larger tank, you can buy cheap plastic Turtleworld tanks that are like mini indoor ponds. I use them for my own turtles and they are big enough to house up to 4 male sliders or 3 large females. However, if you can no longer manage regular water changes because of health problems then you may have to rehome them. Unfortunately all our centres are far away in Durham, Essex and Cambridge. I live in London and don't know anyone in Devon who takes in turtles. Your best option would be to post a request for a new home on the TurtleRescueUK Facebook page. Some of our fans may live in your area and be willing to adopt your turtles..

Hi joined for support. we went to a local dogs home on tuesday and they had a yellow bellied slider dropped off in a tupperware tub He had previously been sold in a top knotch aquarium. new owner kindly put him in a container and placed back on her doorstep. We have reptiles so know about general care regarding heatlamps/ uv etc but completley novice at terrapins. He is now in a fair sized tank with a basking spot. uv /heat. his shell is very dull but he is alert and feeding on pellets . looking forward to upgrading his environment soon so will be nosing on here on a regular basis i google turtle rescue .

Well done for adopting that poor abandoned turtle.Sounds like he was a victim of "flipping" - nasty people buy turtles in expensive tanks cheap as a package because original owner wants them to be cared for properly and then dump the turtle and sell off the tank and accessories at a profit. Some people also get free or cheap pets off Gumtree etc and sell them at a profit.
Yellow bellies are my favourites, very tame and friendly. They enjoy interacting with humans and make excellent long lived pets for life,. Sounds like you have it sorted and got all the basics right. You can buy excellent value food for your new pet from this website (see shop section) far cheaper than branded food.
Also add a few drops of methylene blue (order cheap on Ebay or buy from tropical fish shops) to kill bacteria in water and avoid infection. Careful -it stains fingers, clothes and carpets! Feel free to ask any questions and message me if you need to.

Hi Turtle Rescue and fellow members,
I'm Tarkan and new to the forum but I've been feeding my 2 yellow bellies on your for food for some time now. I found out about turtle rescue via ebay and love what you do.
I got my little guys (no so little anymore!) from a friend of a friend who just wanted to get rid of them. I think pet shops should do more about explaining what the actual responsibilities of keeping terrapins entails as sadly It seems many become unwanted soon after they are bought. I think many pet stores are guilty of trying to make a quick sale.
I'm looking to upgrade their tank as they have been growing so fast (feeding your food). Im looking for something that's around 300lts and something I can modify myself to include a raised basking area. I'm currently in a flat with not too much space so I'm more so looking for a tank rather than a pond. Could anyone suggest where I could find something affordable, I don't mind second hand.
