Hello, Do turtles make noises? Seriously I have not been drinking but last night I was doing some things in Myrtle's tank and chatting away to her. She is very responsive to her name and loves attention, and she started making this strange but very beautiful noise. Has anyone ever heard their turtle make any noises at all? Julie

Hope you all have a happy christmas too. Well that's good to know that Myrtle is so happy, thought it must be either that or she needed to go to the vet!

Hi Nathan, well I acquired Myrtle in March this year when her previous owner moved house and no longer wanted her and I am so glad that was the case as I think she would have died by now, although I freaked out when she turned up, she had to be picked up using tongs as she bit and was really nasty, but I soon found out, that that was because she was starving and so rarely got fed, and being fed daily improved her mood no end. In fact Myrtle would now ideally be hand fed and will not eat herself until you have given her the 1st piece of food. Her shell was really bad and flaking off but that was because she did not have correct lighting, so I sorted that and took her to the vets for vitamin injections and she had weekly baths in this brown stuff and her shell is amazing now. Her tank was far to small so I purchased a much bigger one for her that she could actually swim about in. I wanted to make her set up as natural as possible and bought the Exo Terra Riverbed Sand that Myrtle loves digging in and walking about on and it is very easy to keep clean as well and she loves all her silk plants for hiding in and sleeping amongst at night. I think you should handle your turtles as much as possible so that they see you as their friend and respond to you when they see you. Myrtle is housed in the lounge so that she rarely spends time by herself and thankfully has stopped going so mad now when I came into the room that she was splashing her water all over the carpet. What type of turtles have you got and what are their names?

Sounds like a good set up. Id get some silk plants though as I was told all things like that, that they can hide amongst makes them feel secure. Myrtle very funny when the hoover goes on and she goes in the middle of plants and her face kind of implies ' ha bet she doesn't no where I am now' and I go along with all the usual girlie ' omg where's Myrtle gone' and look away and then she starts splashing to get my attention back to her. Have you tried feeding heads on prawns, all Myrtle will eat now and she loves cucumber slices. Scarey how she rips prawns apart!!

That's brilliant bet it won't be long though before they are actually looking to come out and really starting to enjoy it. I have had to put a baby gate back up even though my daughter is now 12, as Myrtle really enjoys coming out of her tank for a walk about in the house couple of times a week, but she is becoming too brave now and went down a steep flight of stairs little while ago. Sure if you persevere yours will become just as friendly, has took me a good 8 months though and because of being on long term sick from work ive had plenty of time to spend with her. Will be exciting seeing how your turtle's personalities develop, who is the bravest etc. Sure it will help when you have named them as saying Myrtle's name is what gets her attention. Can't really think how I would do that if she had no name. Julie
