2 parts- 1, On a home visit recently to view potential adoptees I came across two male yellow bellies, one of which had very swollen closed eyes. I had never come across this before so I called Wayne who diagnosed a bacterial infection so I treated the tank with meth' blue and also dabbed some onto the infected turtles eyes and kept him out of the water for 10 minutes. The other turtle and also a fish in the tank seemed in good health. The owner continued to do this for a week and also giving him Arkvit vitamin powder. His eyes seemed a bit better but he's still reluctant to open them very often.
As the owner wanted to keep the tank and all mine are full, I couldnt take them straight away but once I had sourced another tank etc. I went to collect them the other day. I've called them Ant and Dec. Once home I became very worried about Dec, his breathing sounded raspy so I immediately booked an appointment with the vet. He told me to stop using the meth blue now and he gave him an injection to make him eat but that only lasted a day and he's back on hunger strike. He also gave me some anti biotics to give him orally but his mouth is jammed shut so I've got to put it along his lips and practically drip it in. What goes in he spits back out and/or comes out of his nose. The whole process is distressing for him and me. At the vets we manged to get his mouth open and it looks lovely and pink and the vet says there should be no reason why he's not eating.
Now I'm sick with worry and dont know what to do?
