How about setting up a national list of recommended vets who treat turtles? It could literally save lives, knowing where to go in an emergency. I had a turtle with a small wound which became infected and she died of septicemia before I could find her a good turtle vet
Not all of us are lucky enough to have good caring turtle vets like Ben nearby. For example, none of my 4 local (within 4 miles) vets treat turtles, only cats and dogs. I live in south London and the only turtle vets are on the borders of Surrey or Kent, at least an hour's drive away.

HIya... I've been thinking of that but I dont know where to start.. apart from literally ringing as many vets as poss. and list the ones that do, putting their names, addresses and contact numbers on the website xx

Well a good place to start would be by using a list of vets available from a tortoise forum. It is not very recent but we can easily phone all numbers in our area to confirm that the specialist reptile vet on the list still works there and that they treat aquatic turtles.s That's how I eventually manged to find a turtle vet, alas too late for my poor girl.
