Hi I was thinking of investing in an external filter, as my internal filter seems to be struggling a bit now.
I was just wondering if someone could list the pros and cons of each and what you use yourselves?
Also if people could suggest some models for me to look at and an indication of price etc that would also be really helpful!
Thanks

hi regarding external filters we use the ehiem 2026 or eheim 2028 filters here at turtle rescue, these are powerful enough to get the job done and will last between cleaning while offering you the keeper very easy cleaning, we've used these here for years and find them so easy to use and every part should you need any can still be found on e-Bay and these filters can be bought on e-bay second hand for around £30 to £40 including p&p... hope this helps you, regards Wayne..

Thanks Wayne I will get looking soon.
What are the benefits, other than the ease of the cleaning? or is it just personal preference?

External filters are generally more powerful and have more filter media inside than internal ones so they are better for large tanks an dessential for ponds.
However you can now get very powerful internals too. I have a massive 1400 l/hr internal filter that keeps my big adult sliders tank clean and has not needed cleaning for 3 weeks.
