When I took my musks out of the feeding tank today after feeding them a salmon treat I noticed one of my females had sore bleeding patches on all her limbs - looks like she scraped off the skin and was bleeding, sort of like when a kid falls and grazes his knees. It's not her paws that are injured but what is the turtle equivalent of knees and elbows, the parts that touch the ground when all 4 limbs are in he r shell. It must have happened a short while before as the blood was fresh This happened before last summer (not sure whether it was her or my other female). The tank bottom is just bare glass and there are no ornaments. Could this have happened during mating as the male is very "active" ? I treated her wounds with 2% chlorhexidene, a broad spectrum disinfectant for turtles that kills all bacteria and put her in hospital tank alone with clean warm water treated with a little methylene blue to prevent infection.

hi this could have been caused by anything from fighting to a fish bone, the main thing is to treat and keep an eye on the injury, musk turtles will go down hill fast from bacterial infection so please keep an eye on it, having said this they can be very clumsy as bottom dwellers yet offer any keeper a very good insight to the smaller turtle, ;D bottom line here they are very small so please look after it and proper treatment will see it through, a good water quality is a must till this cut heals... regards Wayne..

She is alone in a hospital tank with filter and clean water. Wounds cleaned every morning with chlorhexidine solution, followed by triple antibiotic ointment left over from when Prince my YB got bitten.Wounds show slight signs of healing, no more fresh bleeding How long do musk skin wounds normally take to heal?
