I have some leftover bits of kipper and heads tails etc. I think my turtles would enjoy them as a treat because they love salmon and trout heads. However, unlike the trout they've had which was raw the kippers are smoked. Is it OK to feed them smoked fish? What about canned fish like sardines?

hi yes they can have and eat both, however both these can be oily so the feeding of these should be offered as a treat and i would recommend you offer this type of oily fish if you know your gonna clean your loved ones out... regards Wayne..

Right kipper treat this weekend then. Kippers are in the freezer. Yes I am well aware of the problems with feeding them raw fish treats. I always use a separate feeding tank (which stinks of fish for days afterwards) and rinse turtle in clean water before putting them back in their home tank

Update on kipper feast Sliders tucked in greedily and wouldn't stop eating. Pelomedusa and maps enjoyed fish too Musks just weren't interested at all, wouldn't even sniff it. Can't get my musks to eat anything except sinking JMC or bloodworm pellets and live freshwater snails. Worried musks may not be getting a balanced diet as they won't eat lettuce or water plants either
