Hi My main tank light just flickers on and off constantly, I get a dull yellow light from it, rather than a bright white light.
I have taken the top off to inspect and there is a small cylinder type shape labelled starter that also flickers on and off. I think this may be the problem, is it possible to replace these? If so how.
Before the light broke I also noticed that the electronic ballast (large metal box with wires attached) is also getting quite hot. Could this also be a problem?
Any suggestions or help that you can give me would be greatly appreciated, as I currently have no light in the tank.
Thanks

Hiya ... just to let you know what happened to me recently.. u.v tubes should be replaced every 6 months and when replacing one recently it would flash then go off, the old light had been working fine so I thought it might be something I had done. I took the plug on the light fitting apart, checked it over and rewired it .. that didnt work .. I thought it might be a secondery switch so I cut that off and rewired the plug plug on.. that didnt work.. I was demented. Because it was a new bulb and the fact that it would come on and then go off, I didnt think it could be the bulb.. they either work or they dont, dont they? For daftness sake I put the old bulb back in and it worked first time! So the next day I took it back to the shop and they looked equally baffled.. so they tried it in one of their aquarium and it was flashing like a disco light.. hurrah! its not me! Because my light fiiting is a double unit if one bulb go off or faulty they both go off. Moral of the story.. if your having problems with your lighting unit.. it could be due to a number of reasons.. faulty starters could be one reason but unlike household bulbs dont rule out the tube. Wayne will offer offer advice and help you any way he can x
