"Pet of the Day" in today's Metro is a red ear slider called Dick Terrapin. Love the name!
Actually Dick is a female turtle (short front claws). Don;t think the owner realises that but it is not important. What really matters is that the turtle is loved and looked after. Looks lovely, really chunky and well fed. Sounds like it's a spoilt pet and well cared for as it's 27 years old and the owner is rightly proud of his lovely turtle.

27 is a youngster as RES live for over 40 years if well cared for.
Our shelled friends live almost as long as humans. My parents still have a marginated Mediterranean tortoise that is obvr 65 - an OAP even in human years!

Terrapins are different to tortoises though turtlegirl, i have never know a terrapin that is over 35years old.
