Hiya... big welcome to Turtle Rescue!... the more the merrier.. thank you for your kind words.. it wouldnt be anything without the wealth of our members like yourself. Sadly your case is not uncommon with reguards to neglected turtles but well done you for taking them and giving them a chance of a better life. They are fab when looked after properly, your friend of a friends loss and your gain! What type of soft shells are they?. Amongst the many different varities of turtles I have I have an asian soft shell called Pee Wee.. (I didnt pick the name! lol ) and I've come to love him so much I won't be rehoming him. He is magnificent to watch swimming about and is such a sweetie, taking his food from the tweezers so gently, when I clean him out , he goes to one end the tank while I clean the other but dont be fooled.. I thought he looked lonely compared to all the sliders and others I have but like Wayne advised me, I suggest, as soon as you can put them in separate tanks because they don't mix very well, even with their own kind, even if they've grown up together you might get up one morning to find a blood bath which wont be a pretty site. Soft shells dont really bask, generally only getting out of the water to lay eggs but give them them an option to lift them nearer the surface like a large stone or rock but nothing sharp and some plastic plants to hide in when they need to aswell as like you mentioned plenty of sand. x
