I do let most of my turtles including maps out in the garden to walk and bask on warm days but only in safe escape proof cat proof enclosures (LARGE RABBIT CAGES WITH PLASTIC TRAYS AND WIRE CAGE TOPS). Yours would probably enjoy being out in the garden for a while but watch carefully ALL the time. Maps are great escapers and can vanish in seconds if you look away. Don't leave in the sun for more than 15 min as they can easily overheat and die. Maps can stay longer in shade especially if they have access to a shallow dish od water to drink and bathe. Why are you rehoming? I can help with advice on easy and inexpensive turtle keeping as I have 4 maps myself.

Hi thanks for your reply. I am only rehoming as he (well more likely a she) has grown too big for her tank and i really dont have the space for a bigger one She really needs maybe a 5-6 ft tank now and ive nowhere to put one that big. I adore her really, shes got a funny personality and doesnt bite so dont really want to part with her but i have to think of her welfare, and she is growing constantly lol! I have had her for 8ish years and took her coz her old owner got bored and was gonna either stamp on her or throw her in the local canal, so i took her, and did lots of research on how to care for her properly. She has the right food, a heater, a filter and a full spectrum uv light. But i just dont have more space to give her
