Hi,
Hello, a newbie to the forum and after some advice. I have been researching turtles for a while and was looking at getting a single Reeves Turtle. I have just been given 2 turtles and all the kit, I was told they are Yellow Bellied Sliders, but I am sure they are not and am a little concerned that these 2 turtles are now to big for the aquarium they came in. They are measuring 4inches each, are approximately a year old and the tank is 2ft wide x 1ft high x 1ft deep. I have attached a pic and wondered if anyone could identify them for me, so I can check into their adult size and what alterations need to be made to their habitat. Many thanks.

Definitely not Yellow Belly. Looks like some species of map turtle. Male maps remain tiny but females can grow as big as sliders. My female is almost 3x as big as my 2 male maps though they were the same size when I got them together as babies. At 4in already and with a small tail and short front claws I would guess yours is female. You are right in saying the tank is too small and you need a larger one ASAP. A good cheap large home for your turtles would be a plastic tank. I use these -cheap, strong, unbreakable and big enough for even two female maps or sliders. www.turtle-supplies.co.uk/Turtle_World_Turtle_Tank_-_much_cheaper_than_Laguna,_choice_of_colours/p1383329_6342002.aspx
