fellow turtle lovers please spare a thought for our member " TRAMP " and her husband " THE BIG FELLA" as most people do when they keep turtles with fish and if done as baby's should not pose a problem... but please bare in mind these fish if kept properly with turtles in Harmony will breed.... unbeknown to "THE BIG FELLA" when he was doing his weekly clean and thoroughly cleaning all the plastic plants in the tank with hot water "SIMON THE SUCKER LOCH WAS MISSING" as a baby fish eating well on the algae of the plastic plants didn't seem to like hot water and died.... our hearts go out to them... turtle rescue knows and spot checks this house quite a lot as we do with all re homed turtles that leave our care here and these people simply love their pets... "TRAMP WENT MAD"... the big fella was gutted.... and there's a big cross in the garden... " BIG FELLA IS ON RATIONS" if you get our drift...
anyway the word here is to please check all plastic weed when cleaning.... there is life where you cant see...
regards Wayne...
an e-mail of support might just get he's dinner back.... but Alas not "SIMON"..

I symapthise with your loss, an easy mistake to make. We've all done it so don't blame yourself too much.
If you keep fish(or tiny hatchling turtles) and have hollow ornaments in the tank please check them carefully before taking them out of the water to make sure no one is hiding inside. I removed a large hollow rock to clean one of my fish tanks and left it in empty bucket for 15mins while I cleaned and refilled he tank. To my horror I found my raphael catfish was stuck to the walls inside the hollow rock when I went to put it back in the tank. Luckily he was still alive. Many catfish can breathe air to some extent ans some species even crawl out of dried up puddles and hop to deeper ponds many yards way. Had it been any other fish like a cichlid or gourami a tragic death would have been inevitable. Lesson well learnt!
