hi fellow turtle lovers, well it's that time of year now when we see a massive jump in snails & worms in our filters, remember it only takes one snail in your filter to multiply in to thousands, its this time of year these animals prefer to start breeding now the winter snap has gone so wash thoroughly your fresh plants and keep those filters extra clean especially canister filters where worms & snails simply thrieve...
regards wayne..

Snails in the filter are great, and should be encouraged! They not only break down a whole load of the waste which helps keep the filter clean and running well, but they make for great turtle snacks! You shouldn't need to touch a canister filter more often than every 3 months, if you are then it's not big enough. The more you mess with it, the more damage you do to the bacteria cultures, and then you're starting from scratch. NEVER use tap water to clean the filter, else you really will be starting from scratch!
